March 13 2007 - Woman accused of hiding babies under house
SAN ANTONIO, Mar 11, 2007 (UPI via COMTEX) -- A Texas woman is charged with killing her 18-month-old daughter and hiding the bodies of both her young children beneath her apartment. The San Antonio Express-News reported that the bodies of Valerie Lopez' daughter and an infant son remained buried for months. She and her boyfriend told friends told a bad smell was from a dead animal, the newspaper reported. Lopez and her boyfriend, Jerry Salazar, were arrested Saturday after a neighbor found the bodies of Sariyah Garcia and 4-month-old Sebastian Lopez. Salazar, 28, has been charged with injury to a child by omission "because he admitted knowing (Lopez) was abusing the children," District Attorney Susan Reed said at a news conference, the Express-News reported. Lopez, 19, was charged with capital murder in Sariyah's death. A court affadavit said Lopez told police she beat Sariyah because the girl wouldn't stop crying, the newspaper said. Reed told reporters that Lopez told police she killed her son accidentally by rolling onto him. URL: www.upi.com
