March 17, 2004 $110 Million Wrongful Death Suit Filed Against National Fuel
The family of a Buffalo woman who froze to death in her apartment is filing a $110 million dollar wrongful death suit against National Fuel Gas Company. According to published reports, Velma Fordham's family says the company shut off her gas and did not respond to her repeated pleas to turn it back on. Police say the 58 year old Fordham died from Hypothermia in 2001. The company says it acted within the law when it shut off the gas at her apartment because she owed them more than $1,700.00.
